 To whom it may concern,

I am writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of Tim Boos, who is my shooting instructor and also my very good friend.  When I was on the Sheriff's Department back in Indiana 20 some years ago, I learned to shoot when I joined the force.  At that time, we had one of the finest police shooting programs in the United States.  It was started by Clint Smith after he got out of the Marine Corps and joined our department.  At the time, it was very advanced and continued to improve while I stayed with the department.  Clint left our department to go join Jeff Cooper at his Gunsite shooting academy in Arizona.  At that time, the assistant instructor became the head instructor and I was lucky enough to become one of his assistant instructors.  At the time I left the department to come to Colorado, I carried a shooting rank of Police Expert.  This was difficult to achieve because the ranking was based on your scores during mandatory shooting qualifications which are not the same standard pistol shooting scoring.

After coming to Colorado back in 1987, I only shot a few times.  Then for the next 20 years, I didn’t shoot at all.  I still had the skills but the technique became very rusty.  I met Tim Boos after I got interested in shooting again.  Over the last two years with Tim’s coaching and mentoring, I have gotten my old skill levels back and continued to improve.  Now Tim has me just about ready to take my Distinguished Expert qualification test.  Tim has a way of teaching that makes you want to succeed and improve without being overly assertive.  His teaching is like a challenge.  He gives you the technique and then almost dares you to use it.  It’s quite effective.  Plus, he uses his other students to help you reinforce what he is teaching.  It’s not so much a competition as it is a shared learning experience.  He uses us to push each other and improve.  I highly recommend Tim and his shooting programs for anyone who wants to learn whether they be a beginner or an advanced shooter.

Under Tim's mentoring and coaching, I have just achieved my DISTINGUISHED EXPERT certification.
